ELCH is a manufacturer-specified inspection carried out on Airbus rudder and elevator structures, to the procedure and acceptance criteria set out in the aircraft technical manual.
How it works
The inspection follows the aircraft manufacturer’s technical manual procedure, NTM 55-40-09, which defines the equipment, the setup, the reference standard and how indications are to be assessed. Working to the manual procedure is what makes the result acceptable to the operator and the airworthiness authority, so the technique is not varied.
What it detects
The conditions listed in the applicable technical manual procedure for the structure being inspected. Findings are reported against the acceptance criteria in that procedure, and referred to the operator for disposition.

Airbus rudder and elevator structures, inspected as part of scheduled maintenance or in response to a manufacturer or authority instruction.
